ParticipantI see what you’re saying – yeah, we’ve got lots of places like that, too, with the ordering of the food and the waiting and the eating. I guess when I think fast food, I think of a drive thru.
I’m not much for wine, either. I’ve been saying for years that I need to take up drinking, but I can’t abide a lot of the flavors that come from any kind of liquor or spirit. I suppose that’s why if I do get a drink, it’s typically the kind of drink that men come over and feel on my tits because they think I’m a woman.
Bread and olive oil, though, and olives and shit – now you’re speaking my language. I love that stuff, and have recently been making my own mixture of herbs and spices and shit to pour oil over. The wife doesn’t like it, but hey, I can’t always make something for her.
Your mayo question made me think, though – I think for the most part there’s two types of mayo used here…one is more of a typical vinegar based one, and one’s very sweet. I don’t know if you have Hellman’s and Miracle Whip over there, but those are good examples of what I’m talking about. Hellman’s is, in my own culinary opinion, what is used more in the southern part of the country, and Miracle Whip is liked more in the Northern part of the country. It’s the same as pickles – in the south they’re more vinegary and dill based, and in the north they like bread and butter pickles, which are very sweet. I much prefer the non-sweet version of these things. Every now and then we’ll get a chain that was primarily in the north, and they have the sweet stuff, and yeah, no.

ParticipantYeah, no, fo sho, I much prefer the vinegar or salty flavours when it comes to that stuff too. For some reason in NZ everything has to be sweet, so if you go to a Subway for example, you can’t get mustard, you have to get honey mustard. You can’t get chilli sauce, it has to be sweet chilli sauce. They have about 14 sauces to choose from and only one, red wine vinaigrette, doesn’t taste like it’s supposed to be some kind of weird dessert topping. Anyone would think Jerry had designed the NZ Subway sauce menu.
And same with what we were yapping about a while ago regarding iced tea, for some reason over here it seems like it has almost has as much sugar as soda. It’s not that you can’t buy the good stuff at the supermarket though, so I tend to get that and then make my own lunches as much as I can. And it’s not that I don’t like sweet stuff at all, it’s that if I do want it I want to drink it in a soda or shake where I can control the ratio of the sweet to the savoury main meal. I don’t want it premixed for me in some weird sauce.
My favourite thing to dip my fries in is cider vinegar.

KeymasterYou still get mayo through the spectrum, but typically it’s on the sweeter side. Then you have Miracle Whip, which is like Mayo only a bit tangy with 94.3 pounds of sugar per teaspoon. It’s like mayo flavored ketchup.

Oh, and sorry Lark – I just saw your earlier post on loving Five Guys…
no worries mate. (why did i just turn into crocodile hunter?)
to each their own. funny thing though, the chairs at five guys only weigh about 2 ounces. i know this because i accidentally hit one with my foot and it (staying right in place) did a complete flip. crazy.
i tell you a burger i’ve really been enjoying lately has been the Shiner Bock Burger at Chili’s.

ParticipantI’ve been to Chili’s once in the last five years or so, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. This was after they changed up their menu and stuff. That was like a year ago. I should go back. That sounds kinda tasty.

KeymasterThey got a lot better, Friday’s got a lot better just before them, and surprisingly even Applebee’s changed their menu for the better. I know they have some wonton tacos that made my tongue wag and my wiener vibrate.

ParticipantIt turned your Johnson into a vibrator? That’s impressive. Gotta be a hit with the ladies.

Participanthadn’t been to applebee’s in years up until a few months ago. begrudgingly ended up there but enjoyed it. we’ve been back a few times since then and even removed it from my mental blacklist.
i can’t recommend the Shiner Bock from Chili’s highly enough. if you do get it, get an extra cup of the Shiner Bock sauce for your fries.

ParticipantAm I missing something? Shiner Bock what? Looks like you just ordered a beer.

ParticipantChili’s has a burger with Shiner Bock BBQ sauce. It’s amazing. Order it with bacon and an extra side of the sauce for your fries. Had one this evening between that post and this one just because of that first post.
