Here’s a couple of videos cobbled together from tapes I shot in Brazil. Cutijuba is a beach island we visited one day, about 2 hours boat ride from Belem, and Despedida means Farewell Party, and was the weekend before I left.
I ran out of time today, but I was going to edit together all of the bits of you dancing (what was that exactly) to some club music. Ah well, the idea was there.
That dancing at the farewell party was pretty much random drunken chaos for the most part, very loosely based on something called The Quadrilha. A lot of these guys can actually dance quite well but that time everyone was pretty hammered so there’s not much skill evident. For me, even if I trained and was completely sober there wouldn’t be any skill evident.

I was talking specifically about the thing you kept doing in the water, with your hands over your head rocking them back an forth to music other than what we were hearing. I really wanted to cut that stuff together in a funny way. Maybe when I finish this damn boobie site.
Oh yeah, all along those beaches are bars and restaurants with massive sound-systems so I was “dancing” to that. It’s crazy because the bars each play different tunes but they’re right next door to each other. It’s like competitive sound-system wars or something so as you move along the beach it’s like listening to a sampler cd where one track plays for ten seconds before fading into the next. You just need to make sure wherever you decide to stop isn’t halfway between or the clash of sound will drive you nuts.
