ParticipantI finally found a new keyboard for Jerry.

KeymasterWouldn’t a photo of a keyboard we could understand, make more sense than a video we couldn’t?
I’m sure this thing has some additional capabilities (looks like it’s not just a controller), but if the joke was just a “keytar”, he actually has an AX-1 that he’s had forever.

ParticipantBut the video being in German is part of the fun.
And yes, the main point was, “Hey, look! A keytar!”

KeymasterYeah, I figured.
Actually, if you go back out and find the video of Jerry’s album launch from a year or two ago, I’m pretty sure there is a part where he steps out from behind the keyboards to play the AX-1.
You can see it on the keyboard stand in this video:

Actually, instead of you having to go look for it, I grabbed it from the 8 part videos. At about 4:12 he goes for the board to put it on. It’s a bit dark, but it’s because the cameras I had for my job have (known) shit low-light performance, and I’m not a great videographer.

ParticipantI know I’ve mentioned this about fifty bazillion times before, but why doesn’t Jerry bring his keyboard in more often? I know he’s commented that it’s hard to haul his big keyboards over, but surely he has some smaller ones?

KeymasterWell, I think that his “smaller ones” are some of the ones he’s gotten rid of when he scales the rig down. I could be wrong, but I think he’s down to just “big boards”. Probably a better question is, why doesn’t Rob just bring his dormant, decaying XP-50 out when Jerry’s over, or to my house when we record there? Why, why why?!?!
I dunno.

ParticipantYeah Robbie… answer the man’s question.
And, you may have answered this at some point, but do you prefer Robbie or Robby.
October 10, 2011 at 4:53 pm #30400rob
ParticipantActually, I prefer Robby out of those two. I go by Rob everywhere else.
I’ve been toying around with a couple of songs that’ve been in my head for a while, so the XP’s not as dormant lately. I think mainly it’s because it’s sort of a hassle, with the boards as unwieldy as they are.

ParticipantWell I don’t think you have any problems swinging around anything else that’s unwieldy, even if it means smacking a few foreheads, so let’s get on that.
Which brings up another good point. We’ve heard Jerry twiddle his fingers on the plastic keys before, and we’ve heard a recording or two of stuff Robby has done, but ne’er has Robby twiddled his fingers hisself. So, Rob, you need to get on that too. Haul it out, show it around, then zip it up and pull your keyboard out and record some live playing.

KeymasterUnwieldy? As if he needs to carry it in a holster, and be able to quickly maneuver it when the enemy breaks down the door.

ParticipantWhile he yells, “Stop or I’ll shoot?” And then furiously works the pump action?
