is when the guys would scream into the mics. don’t know what made me think of that just now. i guess the end of 168 when orange lounge is over and there’s a little bit of silence i instinctively turned the volume way down. even though they only did it a few times in the early shows it’s always in the back of my mind.

Now you done it. If Jerry reads this we’re all gonna pay.

Yeah, he’s sure to do it if the thinks about it.

Although “What out for that truck!” will always be on the great SOS moments.

even better is that by the time they record it and it gets released we will have forgotten all about this little thread.

    sorry in advance.

No lie, I expected a sound byte of Jerry screaming to play when I opened this thread.

hahaha… yeah, I can see that getting tired, unless it got your cube-mate and you get to see them flinch and yank their headphones off. I on the other hand, always hated when the show just halted for 5 minutes while Jerry and Rob just made noises. It’s part of what makes the show, whatever comes out is what comes out, but anytime I walked away from the mics for the first two years, I just knew that’s what I was going to come back to.

So in other words, you wouldn’t want them to have one of those programs with a bunch of buttons, where each button played a different sound.

Only the buttons are just circles that they draw the “buttons” on each other.

And the placement of said “buttons” most certainly determines which sounds they make.

I never got tired of that stuff. I just always have found Rob and Jerry’s noise silliness completely infectious. It’s not the type of material you’d use in a Best Of or a promo, but their love of stupid man-made sounds is a delight to me.

Drove me crazy back then (I care far less now that we really do just whatever the hell), especially when it was happening during the two shows per week days.

Man, we used to do two shows per week. Crazy.

BTW: I read the above as “It’s not the type of material you’d use in a Best Of or a porno, but their love…”

    And I thought… I wouldn’t?

Oh yes. A porno where in the background, instead of music, there’s Rob saying, “Monkey, monkey, monkey, haaa-heee.”

I think that’s sort of the evolution of our style, though. Making noises is kind of a primitive form of comedy, and I think back then, it really made the two of us laugh. There’s one show in particular that I can think of where Jerry had like no sleep, and he was making noise the entire show. Of course, I loved that stuff, but I can see how that might have been annoying to some.

I think more than anything, though, it was more about making the person you’re sitting across from laugh — we weren’t thinking of anyone else.

Then again, you could make the argument that Jerry and I are simply children stuck in these gorgeous man-bodies.

How close together were you guys living when you were doing the two shows a week?
