ParticipantBit of a health update and some movie talk. Yeah, I’m not 100% yet, so I just don’t feel funny yet, so this might be a bit dry, but hey.

ParticipantI know you talked about the Battlefront book, but can’t remember if you talked about the others.
Looking forward to seeing Nice Guys even more now. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is one of my favourite recent flicks and Nice Guys really seems like a spiritual successor to that.
Anyway, cool to hear you’re on the mend. I’m looking forward to following your journey into becoming a ninja.

KeymasterHoly crap. I wrote a lot after listening… I had a lot of feedback. But Sarari fucking crashed and I lost it all. Now, I’m just not willing/able to try to work through all of that again. Some of it is probably better for a discussion anyway.
Killing Joke: I had more to say “last time”, but I was let down by the movie. It felt like a summary with dialog, rather than a story I was along for the ride on. I agree that it’s one of the best stories out there from the Batman (or even comic) universe. It does something none of the others do well; it adds a lot of understanding to the relationship between Batman and Joker. But it felt wasted, because I didn’t get invested in it, and then we were just “there” at the end. There wasn’t enough there to get me in my head about it, during or even after. Like I said, it felt like a summary. On the animation style, it felt too much like a cross between the less-dark episode of The Animated Series and some classic Batman illustration. I’d have liked a more artistic take on the graphic style. I’d watch it as an animated movie completionist, but set your expectations.
Nice Guys: I loved this movie. I wrote a lot about it, before my browser fucking crashed again (I don’t like this new MBP so far). I’m not retyping it… I had copy/pasted the above from after the first crash, but apparently got out of the habit. I loved the physical comedy, I liked the genuine feel to most of the humorous dialog. I’ve watched it several times already.
Sausage Party: It’s a horribly stupid fucking movie. I laughed a lot though. The “shock humor” was so absurd, that some of it just made me laugh out loud a lot. It was like someone listened to a bunch or our weird shows (adult theme park) and then tried to make a stoner adult humor version of a Pixar world. The food reality jokes were mostly groaners, the message and characters were just stupid, the sex jokes were way over the top too unnecessary but a lot of the physical jokes and the dumb misunderstood sex jokes still made me laugh. I guess I was in an accepting mood. As for why it’s rated high… it’s Seth Rogan’s normal “I’m so fucking high and I cuss a lot” kind of humor. The people that went to see this got fan-spooge all over them. I’d never pay money for this movie, and I’d be pissed if I had. I just want to hear more stories about people not knowing what it is, and thinking it’s a family animated movie. I expect a lot of this in the coming months. 🙂 Also, I hate when people use the term “Easter egg” to refer to references. It really really annoys me.
Hell or High Water: I haven’t watched this yet. I need to.

I dare you to call or Skype or visit Robby to have this conversation and record it then release it as a recording on the internet.

ParticipantFor the Killing Joke, Bryan, you hit the nail on the head. It just felt like a wasted opportunity. It’s part of the reason why I never made it through the regular Batman Animated series – there might be some great stories in there, but the animation style just isn’t for me.
And I don’t even know why I watch comedies anymore. For me, our show has completely ruined my ability to watch most humor from other people. We actually discussed something similar here on the board at one point, back when I kept getting upset about people saying “Ha, Rob’s gay!” Part of that is just people trolling and my inability at the time to deal with it, but I remember you had said something along the lines of “don’t waste the opportunity, if it’s not a home run then don’t bother”. I don’t know if you remember that or if it even makes sense, but that’s always stuck with me. And Sausage Party, for me, was just a bunch of the regular ol’ crap.

ParticipantDo you not even enjoy Will Ferrell movies Robby?
Because if not there might be something wrong with you that not even a surgeon could repair.

ParticipantYeah, Will movies are good, sometimes. Didn’t like Get Hard though, but that may be because I think Kevin Hart is extremely unfunny.
