So here is the ‘test’ file. It took FOREVER to get this thing out the door, because I wanted to leave it 1080p. What a waste of time, it took this little beast like 8-10 HOURS to render it out with just a little video noise reduction.

Anyway, this is exactly what you’d expect of me; rambling about nothing, losing my point, getting distracted, talking without thinking and then worrying only about the presentation. I’m retarded.

Will watch asap and provide feedback. I like the concept, and I remember how awesome the car ride with you and Robbie was, so I’m excited as to what I will get out of this.
-that whole, “Blueant speak to me” bullshit was awesome from that video

Sweet! If I wasn’t already 3 hours past my bedtime from trying to put together one of these things myself I’d watch the whole thing right now.

    1. Holy shit you have a lot of cameras! One is obviously your phone and one must be your GoPro but what are the others?

    2. It’s cool to finally hear you talking about what it’s like in Seattle. Pretty much all my knowledge of Seattle comes either from reading a ton of articles in music publications in the early 90s or watching Penny Arcade TV but, unless my memory deceives me, I don’t think any of those things communicated the experinces of one Captain Bryan Castles.

    3. Auckland has the same problem with cyclists. Just today I was held up for seconds on end (it always feels like minutes) by two fucksticks riding side-by-side instead of single file. Cyclists die somewhat regularly here too.

    4. The trick of having you in the corner with the dashboard cam as the main cam, and switching out to the other cams for short runs, is very effective.

    5. You said somewhere you didn’t know if the 26 minutes would be watchable but you’re so damn good at being an entertaining yapper there was never any moment where I drifted off what you were saying, like happens to me when I’m listening to someone who’s not as compelling a yapper.

    6. The sound quality is splendid.

    7. “The point is … things.”

I found this to be an enjoyable watch, too. I think I’m going to start linking to the youtube link as well, because it defaults to like 360p or something on the iPad here in the forum, but in youtube you can choose the quality. I know not everybody uses an iPad, but I do, dammit.

I liked it. You made a couple good points about people working for the fact that they just want to be done work. I get that feeling up here too. Also digging the video quality and the fact that you can grab and hold my attention more than the projects I’m working on, but I have always been a fan of your rants and talks for a long time.

Also you’re in WA now? Come up to Canada and see the majestic moose some time, I’ll bring you some poutine and you can see my igloo

Care to expand Ben? Or are they super secret?

I only had 2 cameras in use for that. Basically, I’ve shot a lot of other footage of the GoPro on the car just driving back and forth to work, and I cut to that stuff. I’ve wanted to make a little driving video, but as far as I’ve gotten is just different views to and from work. So GoPro Hero2, and iPhone 5 (front facing).

I’ve got the things I wanted to talk about broken down into segments. That’s only part of it. I was going to talk more about housing, cost of living, the actual experience of the move and what we went through. There is a ton there. Don’t know how interesting it is though.

    Cyclists are complete fuckwits.

Switching the camera at all makes it feel less long I’m thinking. I may think about doing these at a time other than commute as well. Allow me to vary up the trip, and the runtime a little.

On the runtime, sure I can talk a lot. It would be nice to get back in touch with my funny haha streak so that I can get back to the kind of delivery I’d have if I were talking with Rob or something.

The sound was straight from the iPhone 5. I’m modifying the setup in the future to make sure my better mic is used. The day I chose to shoot that I had the wrong case on the GoPro to use the external mic.

I like your point Rob about linking to the YouTube file too. I didn’t notice that was happening on the iPad. I put way too much effort into including the 1080p, I won’t be doing that in the future as the render time was just fucking dumb. 720p is probably what I’ll target.

Also, yes I am in WA now. I need to get our passports so that we can be allowed to do the border crossing and the not getting locked in or out of our own country thing.

    I knew it.

Cool drive. Watched the whole thing in HD. Those tunnels are triply. The downtown area looks cool also. Now were you driving up hill the whole time in the last 7-8 minutes? Camry drivers bite hairy nuts.

    I like titties.

The drive is only a little bit hilly on the commute home, although there is a nice little hill to climb to get into my neighborhood. There are other areas that are MUCH more hilly, but I don’t think it was going on THAT long in the video.

I need to drive and record some of the other cool places that are in existence here. Maybe a few that aren’t.
