ParticipantCan’t believe we don’t have an Avengers thread yet. Here’s the extended Super Bowl spot, if you guys didn’t catch it…

KeymasterWhat if we did catch it. Is it still here? These things confuse me Rob, speak plain-stupid-people-English!

ParticipantI apologize. I guess my English speaky isn’t too goodly.

ParticipantAvengers….I’ve only gotten as far as seeing the first Iron Man….Somehow missed all the other related movies.
Now if it was called The Avangellers….and it was about a group of super powered preachers….

Participantvery looking forward to this muchly.
i think this could be good. considering i never thought a movie like this could ever see the light of day i’ll take it even if it’s mostly bad.

KeymasterI’ll pretty much see this no matter what, because of exactly what you just said. I never thought a movie like this could ever see the light of day either. The idea that these really build onto each other, and culminate in one sort of super movie is a fan fairytale, and I never believed in the early discussion days that it would actually get made.

Participant“I have an army.”
“We have a Hulk.”
So fricken Whedony.

KeymasterI was never a fan of any of this TV stuff… it’s just lost on me.

ParticipantI loved both Buffy and Angel. I found each episode entertaining with a fair few great standout ones….but the whole series arcs and the way the characters were developed…it was perfect TV.
Firefly is probably the most overrated of his works. I’ll agree that, for what little we saw, it could have been great. It wasn’t bad at all….a perfect starting point. But it could just have easily fallen on it’s arse into a puddle of shit. Cancelling the show was probably the best thing that could have happened for Joss Whedon. It propelled him to the rank of a God in the eyes of the Geek.
Serenity was for me, a crap movie. But I watched it straight from the TV show. I didn’t like the way the pace changed from an ongoing gentle reveal of characters pasts and where they were headed into an out and out rush towards a hectic finale taking a couple of characters along the way…..If I had been made to wait after the TV show without any chance of the show returning and then, much later, this suddenly came out. I’d have probably liked it. But I didn’t get to see it that way…It’s a “we’ll never know”what could have been” scenario with this..
Doll House and Doctor Horrible I can’t comment on. never seen them…
Whereas Alien Ressurection…I kinda enjoy it….but it’s not good.

ParticipantSo, Neill Fucking Cumpston did a review of The Avengers. I think there may be a few spoilers, but nothing so definite. Stuff like “Iron Man does cool shit”. Just amazingly well-written and funny.

KeymasterHaven’t thought about his insane reviews in a while. That was a fantastic read, and it did help me feel like it’s okay to feel a little excited about this movie being out. The amount of times I have to watch the “head count” spot on TV really makes me fearful that it won’t be chocked full of the awesome. But, it just may be.
I really laughed a lot in his review. I can’t be bothered to read others from scented candles.

ParticipantYeah, I love that dude. I’m actually glad he only does reviews every now and then, because the shtick may get tired.

Participantcaught Avengers today. perfect comic book movie. none of the characters feel short-changed. they all get there moments and it never feels forced and segmented. some incredible fanboy “who would win in a fight between…” moments.
a very short but glorious co-op moment with Captain America and Iron Man during the final fight.
the new david banner worked. the Hulk was awesome. i can do nothing but gush over this movie.
i never could have imagined that after twelve years of this comic book renaissance it would still be going strong enough to get this magnum opus of a movie.
Dear Michael Bay, this is how you do a movie with over-the-top characters set in a hyper-real universe. it’s all about character investment, not juvenile humor and explosions for the sake of explosions. (yes, i love Transformers 1 and 3 but i’m trying to be objective. i’m not a complete idiot.)
i didn’t like the Dark Knight Rises trailer. i kind of had a tiny little “uh-oh” feeling deep down. but i have complete faith in Nolan. there’s no way he’ll screw it up and even a bad movie from Nolan would still be better than most modern movies.
anyway. end of rant. Avengers is awesome.
