KeymasterOkay, so I was looking at Al’s site recently, and catching up on everything that there was to see on the Earth since my last visit, and Al had an appearance on Kevin Pollak’s Chat Show. Have any of you caught this? There must be 5 people watching at least, because they are still being watched. I like Pollak, but holy fucking this is… NOT funny. It looks like he’s trying to do some kind of serious discussion with famous people, which I get –But it’s the humor attempts that are hard to hear over the deafening silence that made me say “what… the. fuck?”

We seriously did something wrong (aside of relying on me to handle show releases)… being in showbiz already, can’t be the single only justification for this video podcast to exist. There has to be another reason this is out there still… right?

Participantplease tell me you didn’t watch the whole thing. that was painful.
the only thing saving that (aside from the awesomely awesome Al) is that it was number 42. so there was obviously some sort of cosmic intervention to protect Al from this.

KeymasterI listened to about half of it, because I was interested in the ‘real’ version of the early days of Al. But even Al can’t save how lame this show is.

Participanti must confess that i actually went back and watched the whole thing just to see Al. the last ten minutes actually made me laugh out loud twice.

ParticipantI’ve never watched the video version but last year I listened to the audio versions of about five episodes of Pollack’s show and the fact I never listened to anymore tells you all you need to know about how worthwhile I thought it was.
It’s not that it’s shit, it’s just very meh, and there are way too many superior podcasts out there for me to want to hear anymore of it unless he gets some kind of superguest.
Did you ever check out the Al interview I posted a couple weeks back Bryan?

ParticipantAlready being in show business tends to count for a lot in this modern society.

KeymasterAnd that’s a fact that I’m not debating… I’m trying to figure out how it’s propelled this weak show so long.

ParticipantTechnically, they don’t have to have many listeners to keep going with the show. As long as they enjoy doing it and keep throwing money at it, they can keep doing it.
Also, there are some people that, if they like the actor, will keep watching everything they do no matter how good it is, and will simply convince themselves it’s good just because it has one of their favorite actors in it. This also works in politics. Kind of a fan boy thing.
So I’d say my guess is a combination of those two things.

KeymasterIt could be… I guess in my hurried replies (my work day sucks every day now… I have to WORK?!?) I didn’t really explain what I was measuring ‘keep going’ against. Like us, you can just do it if you want to. But he gets actual guests, and even if he is known enough to justify SOME of it, I figure at some point actors and musicians might say… does anyone even fucking watch this stuff?
At least I think that’s part of what I was thinking at the time, I really never know anymore.

ParticipantIf I was an actor or some other sort of celebrity, I think I would be thinking “free publicity”. Even if only 10 people watched the show, that’s still an extra 10 people that might get interested in that celebrity and tell their friends, etc. That’s really the only logical explanation I can think of.
You should write him and ask for you guys to be on the show. It’d be funny watching you guys trying to be funny while he was playing straight man.

KeymasterIf I were an actor or some other celebrity I think I’d realize that doing anything at all, including just going to Starbucks would expose me to just as many people. Just becomes what is worth the time spent.
I should write him and ask him if he wants to be on OUR show. Or better yet… Al.

ParticipantI have to say…I have watched one episode. Not this one – it was the one with Damon Lindelof, and he was talking about Star Trek, Lost and Prometheus. I just enjoy listening to Damon talk about that kinda stuff, and it was also interesting to hear him talk about Lost now that it’s over and he can say whatever he wants.
That being said, the only reason I watched it was because I was interested in the guest. Kevin Pollak is sorta funny sometimes, but I disliked him on the show and his cohosts were extremely unfunny.
