i rooted my old Droid® (which is the same thing as a jailbreak) because we would get custom made ROMs based on software that verizon wouldn’t push out over-the-air for months.
my iPhone® is jailbroken so i can tether without having to fork over another $20 (or $30? i honestly can’t remember) to verizon.
and my iPad® is jailbroken so that i can (pardon my french)…

and i guess it’s because of the android OS being open source but the community for android was a completely different animal from what i’ve seen on the iOS front. it’s kind of like the difference between xbox and ps3. i only game online with my xbox because it just seems like more of a community spirit, even on xbox forums. so i guess my question is if any of you jailbreak and have any decent forums you could steer me towards?

I have a droid but it’s not jailbroken and I don’t know of any decent forums specifically addressing the issue but a podcast I listen to called Tech It Or Leave It has a forum where you might be able to ask what you want to know or begin discussion and stuff. You’ll find your old mate Ori hanging out in those there parts too.

Seriously though, they should be able to help. It’s where me and Bucho first became aquainted which lead me to you guys….so it can’t be all that sophisticated or subtle….

Sorry, I’ve had a busy couple of days. This thread has been open for me to reply to… I finally remembered to come back to it.
So, let me first say that my iPhone, my ATV2 and my iPad are all jailbroken. I don’t use any forums for any support. Correct information is spread all over the place, and the timing doesn’t always support waiting for some super great forum of catch-all to have news on it.
For news and direction, I read http://www.RedmondPie.com and http://www.iPhoneHacks.com/
Other than that, I pretty much stick to google for answers. Now, if you have some jailbroken app specific type questions, then there are some good forums/resources to take a look at.

SiNfuLiPhoneYes, there is information on less than legal procurement, but these folks are doing the same stuff to their phone that everyone is doing… it’s a good place to take a looksee.
As for your print thing, you do NOT have to jB your iPad or iPhone for that. In fact, if you do the hack on a desktop, it will broadcast a fully iOS compliant airprint printer, and leave the trouble on the easier to manage workstation. I’ve seen this on Mac (use it) and on PC.

i guess i was just curious if you JB because you wanted specific functionality, to change the look of the UI or simply because you could.
i like finding things that i didn’t know i wanted (aside from print/tether. oh, and wifi analyzers. i can’t believe how restrained official apps are when it comes to even a simple wifi scan.) i’m more of a “hey i could use that” over a “i wonder if there’s something that…” kind of guy.
i guess i’m just lazy. i didn’t JB my iPad® until i JB my iPhone® from verizon earlier this year. i really enjoyed all the modding and command-fu on my droid. i don’t guess it’s really fundamentally all that different if i would just get off my butt.
redmondpie looks useful. i think i’ve seen you post that one before but forgot about it. you are a scholar and a gentleman and like Meatloaf says “two outta three ain’t bad”.
