ParticipantI’ve been trying to get into more European subtitled horror flicks after a couple of recommendations shot into my top 10 list last year.
Those two recommendations were [REC] which is a Spanish zombie flick. Remade in the US as Quarrantine. The original subtitled Spanish version is absolutely amazing though.
Also, Let the Right One In which has been remade in the US as Let Me In and starring Hitgirl. Again, the subtitled original is amazing!!
I hadn’t heard much about it, but a Norwegian film called The Troll Hunter came to my attention. I found a hard coded subtitled version….you know. As you do….online….And I really enjoyed it. It’s kinda like Blair Witch with the missing students and found footage storyline. The students are doing a project following a guy they suspect of being a bear poacher….and, as the titled suggests, they get more than they bargained for!
I loved this movie. Mostly because these kind of films have a reluctance to show the monster. Cloverfield springs to mind. A leg here and an extreme close up of a head. Not Troll Hunter though. These are traditional Norwegian trolls that wouldn’t look amiss in Labyrinth or any other Jim Henson workshop…..but scary too and on full show. I loved it and recommend it to all! Not as scary as [REC] which goes in as my all time scariest movie ever! But well worth the download time…

ParticipantI saw Let The Right One In and wasn’t as crazy about it as the majority of peeps who saw it but I did like it.
Troll Hunter looks like a lot of fun though. I like that the trolls appear to be stop motion, even if they aren’t.

ParticipantIsn’t this one of the ones you talked about on one of the recent episodes of your show?
I could make a joke about that last scene in the trailer, about a new way to fight the trolls, but I’ll just skip it.

ParticipantNo, I’ve only just seen this one. I mentioned it on Facebook. Maybe Special Harold saw it on there…. I did speak about [REC] for a long time both off and on the show…..and lost a lot of sleep too! That was some movie!! Still my all time scariest

Participanti enjoyed both [REC] and let the right one in. troll hunter has slipped under my radar but looks right up my alley.
have you seen eden log? it’s mostly sci-fi with some elements of creature horror. not as much scary as it is tense, atmospheric and moody.

Participant…it is available at all good Torrent stores 🙂
(which means you can find it on Pirate Bay. Just be sure to search out one with “hard coded english subtitles. I once tried to watch Dead Snow without subs. Didn’t work!)

ParticipantI now have it with subtitles, but haven’t watched it yet. I also downloaded El Orfanato (The Orphanage) which I haven’t had time to watch…

ParticipantThat was great. It’d be cool if they really did something with that.

The Orphanage is really good. it’s been a couple years since i watched it but from what i remember it’s also got some top notch cinematography.

No, he means it’s got that Spanish bull bloke directing….Del Torro. (My Spanish isn’t great, bit I’m pretty sure Torro is bull, right?)
