KeymasterI had it ready to go the day before Xmas eve, but had not yet finished the artwork. It was a taxing holiday around here with last minute shopping, and a jet poo spewing 2 year old. So, it waited for today.

KeymasterJust imagine… there are more of them too. 169 just needs to have the notes taken, and the artwork done… but it’s important to space them out more than a few hours.
170 though, will have to wait until Jerry’s return from Uganda or Paraguay or whatever… he has one of the audio files needed locked up on his shiny little iMac.

KeymasterSo no play-by-play review on this one? I’m still super bummed that we are missing all of that audio, I really have to say that the stuff at dinner was as good as anything on the show, and we bother to spend some time on who the hell our guest is.
Oh well, we’ve had a few of these… we’ll just drown it in more content. Eventually.

What a tease. I don’t have it in me to run any play by play review until I know who John is and what you ate for dinner. And what Rob was wearing.
I will say this though – I realised what may be a better explanation for why stories of your health battles are compelling. It’s not just that you’re a natural storyteller, it’s that there’s also an inherent drama to those kinds of stories which explains why a show like House can be such a ratings jugganaut. It’s like a mystery story.

ParticipantJohn is a partially blind friend of mine from my days at Blockbuster. He taught me the art of the Scottish accent, and how to love.
We ate Genghis Grill, hence the play on the podcast title. Its array of meats and spices also taught me how to love.

KeymasterDid I ask why my health stories don’t lose us listeners on that show? The next time I bring it up, I’m hoping it’s more like “I’m still fat, I’m not doing this about it… pass me a Red Bull”.

ParticipantRob’s Blockbuster days … who knew at the time they’d be so fertile?

No, but this show I realised the House/mystery connection. Because you tell the story in a way which unfolds like that … you start off with the mystery of why your mind seems to be acting against your own best interests a lot of the time and in this episode you came back with the results. The fact it’s the same sleep apnoea result from three or four years ago doesn’t matter so much to the compellingness of the story because the testosterone readings was a new element and suggested a different outcome.
I mean, the important thing is obviously that you get healthy (and get some more damn episodes of the show out and help get our little project running) but the silver lining is that you turn it into good drama because you tell good stories.

ParticipantI got money on Bryan winning in a 10 feet dash race against me.
I got all my money on me dying trying to run a quarter mile.
I got winded typing this.

ParticipantYou better take it easy then Bing. You show any sign of light-headedness and Lark’ll be all over you with his heroic mouth-to-mouth skills.
