ParticipantDid any of you guys see this? I’ve never read any of the comics but since it was Edgar “Hot Sean Of The Fuzz Dead” Wright’s third film I was really looking forward to it.
The only thing that worried me was that I’m not the biggest Michael Cera fan, but I thought he was great in this and I liked it a lot. Actually, it’s a film packed to the gunnels with very fun, funny performances. It’s nicely silly thoughout and very fast-paced and energetic, especially in the edting choices. The main character, Scott, is a clueless dork and even a little mean at times in his dopey selfishness, but somehow Cera makes him easy to root for.
I have it in my top three of the year so far with Exit Through The Gift Shop and Un Prophete and Edgar Wright is 3 for 3 for me.

ParticipantDoes anyone here like Cera? Personally I think he only has the awkward act going for him and that’s entertaining for about 10 minutes then it just gets old and stale.
Thoughts? Opinions?

Participanti thought he was tolerable in superbad (which i actually liked) but it seems he suffers from keanu reeves syndrome. which is funny because i thought reeves was good in the matrix because the character he always plays finally fit the part for the first time since bill & ted. but don’t think about it too much because it’s the hollywood equivalent of dividing by zero or something. i think.
though i do like a lot of keanu’s movies, i’m just saying the matrix role fit him perfectly. cera not so much lately.

ParticipantThis is the first thing I’ve liked him in and the fact his character has a little bit of a selfish, narcissistic streak and some nice kung fu moves goes a long way. Normally (like in Arrested Development and Superbad) I’ve seen him play a victim-type dork, but in this, while he’s still a dork, he does a lot of the dealing out of the pain, both intentionally and unintentionally, and having a good amount of agency like that makes a difference to his persona.
Plus, it’s an Edgar Wright movie. Dude’s a treasure.
Speaking of Edgar Wright (who, correctly, loves Point Break) I loved Keanu in Point Break. I seem to remember Keanu was aces in Speed too, although I haven’t seen that one for aeons.

i’ll give you point break. i’ll let speed slide because at the time i really liked it. i haven’t seen speed in a loooooooong time so i don’t know how well it still holds up.

wright. you can’t be a fan of zombie’s and not know how to quickly dispatch a fellow.

ParticipantEdgar’s superior speed would deal to Kev’s size advantage.
Speaking of Kevin Smith I should also have mentioned that Superman himself (aka Brandon Routh) delivers a hilarious turn in Scott Pilgrim as one of the evil exes. Also, Macaulay Culkin’s little bro Keiran is brilliant at Scott’s room mate.
Actually, I thought all of the supporting roles were pretty great. Edgar Wright is a master caster.

KeymasterIt’s on my list. The fanboy crap I was reading around made me annoyed with the movie before anyone could say much about it… but the trailer totally sold me. I’m in for the fun at least.

Participantnot a big cera fan but love bill pope. is it weird to buy a movie based on the director of photography? either way i don’t care if it’s weird or if cera is in it beause this movie was awesome. i loved the tone of the movie and thought the music was really good.
the blu-ray has 4 commentaries and a trivia track. so basically i watched the movie six times last weekend.

ParticipantGlad you like it Lark. And Edgar Wright is one of the champions when it comes to stuffing his dvd packages with goodness for sure. Do you have Hot Fuzz and/or Shaun Of The Dead?

how dare you question my loyalty! of course i do. the great thing is that they are (at their core) a true zombie movie and a true action movie. and from that comes the comedy. pure genious.
