I had the same thoughts about AD … that binging it was a suboptimal way to engage with it for me, and also that I’d have liked it more if I’d watched in the mid-2000s.

Also with you on The Good Place, not the sharpest show but very lovable until the end, although I found the finale depressing as heck.

I don’t have Amazon Prime so I haven’t seen The Expanse, but everyone says it’s a good time. Word on the street is Robby is going to dive in on that one, and may even be watching it as I write this.

I watched the first two eps of Sex Education a few weeks ago, hoping it could fill the gap left by Derry Girls, but I couldn’t get into it.

I watched and mostly enjoyed S1 of Altered Carbon, but not enough to have been tempted into trying S2 yet.

I’m probably going to give Better Call Saul a go, because I’ve always been a Bob Odenkirk fan, but I haven’t watched Breaking Bad yet.

Aside from that I’ve been catching up on Netflix stand-up specials.
    – Chappelle’s 3 were the best I’ve seen so far, he’s just on another level as far as I’m concerned.
    – Burr’s 2019 special wasn’t as good as previous specials of his, but I’m still a fan.
    – Maron’s was disappointing, it felt like material which needed more work to hone into something potent.
    – Jeselnick I’ve always liked, but I prefer the more personal approaches of the other guys.

Holy cow Captain, how did you manage to watch all those shows with only two eyes? Have you had extra eyes installed?

    Coronavirus isolation TV update:

I’ve been catching up on a couple of shows everyone else on the planet has seen except me … Arrested Development and The IT Crowd.

AD is a lot more broadly goofy than I expected. For some reason I was expecting a laser-sharp, 30 Rock/Veep style deal but it’s much more along the lines of traditional sitcoms, leaning hard on low-hanging fruit. Some ace performances elevate the material though, especially Arnett, Walter, Hale and Tambor.

The IT Crowd is about what I expected. I’ve been a fan of Ayoade in particular from things like The Big Fat Quiz and epecially Travel Man, the best travel show in the history of television, but never got round to watching the show that launched him. Harmless but charming fun.

A million years ago Scatt told us that the only show which had a similar die-laughing type vibe to SOS was the CHUD Show, the podcast of the dearly departed CHUD.com, so I checked them out and fell a little bit in love with them, then I joined the CHUD forums and they became my home for movie chat ever since and then I started doing those Bucho’s Road Reviews and Nick from CHUD liked them enough to host them on CHUD so a dream came true and then Nick and Justin from the CHUD Show started a new podcast called Movie Microscope and then they did an episode on The Force Awakens and Nick did this song for it and it made me think of you guys since you love Weird Al type songs and since I also consider you the first Star Wars podcast I ever listened to so now the circle is complete.

That’s awesome man, it’s cool to know you’re out there. Our American listenership is actually kind of concentrated in that mid-North-Eastern quadrant of the US … it seems like you guys have good taste in podcasts in that neck of the woods, although to be fair the sample size is super small right now so it could just be good old randomness.

On episode 15 – I never watched the show because I figured it was just a cartoon, I didn’t know it was so deep. I like listening to your breakdowns of the episodes and to hear a bit more about the lore. I’ll keep up with it as I can.

You and Robby are doing a great job together, it’s almost like you have been doing a show together forever. It makes it so easy to listen to, and it’s clear you both know quite a bit about the universe. Great show!

What state are you in Ben? Curious because our hosts Podbean give us some download stats, including a sweet map showing where our legion of troops are based.

Stoked to hear you’re digging it Ben, like Robby says it’s fun as heck for us to do it so it’s cool to know it works even if you haven’t watched the show itself yet. Funnily enough my own journey into podcasts began the same way … I basically discovered podcasting as a thing from a Joss Whedon blog post and ended up listening to two Firefly-based podcasts for about a month before I ever watched an episode of Firefly, just because it was a nice change from listening to the radio at work and because I’ve always enjoyed hearing passionate folks yap about things even if it’s not something I’m passionate about (yet). And it was because those Firefly shows both used to tell listeners at the ends of the episodes to go to Podcast Alley and vote for them that I ended up at Podcast Alley, which is where I stumbled across our beloved Switched ON lo (dimension) those many moons (of Endor) ago.

But yeah, I was in the same boat/sail barge as you for years, dismissing the animated Star Warses as “for kids” but a few people – mostly Robby – made me more and more curious about it and hopefully it comes across from my yammerings how the show kind of blew me away with just how much it expands on and deepens pretty much everything about not just the Clone Wars era of Star Wars, but the entire Star Wars Universe. The world-building alone is a ton of fun, and then via the various adventures of Anakin you get to learn more about him and Obi-wan and Padme and also get to know a bunch of new characters who are also a ton of fun to follow.

Hopefully when Disney+ launches in a couple of weeks you’re able to jump on board and even if you don’t watch The Clone Wars from Ep 1 maybe you can jump in at wherever we’re up to and this goofy little show will have done enough to orient you in the world so you’re not lost. And even if one-ep-per-day our pace is too ridiculous to keep up with you’ll at least get to hear about which episodes are essential from Robby.

Nicely produced! I’m 3 episodes in.

I love you SO MUCH Octavious, I’ve always said that.

You should record a (PG-rated) message so we can play it on a feedback show. Heck, record two!

Next time you’re Tom Hanksing in Seattle try some Derry Girls Captain. I’m curious what you’d make of an Irish comedy like that.

Altered Carbon had a couple of dud episodes but was mostly fun. I gradually became a fan of Joel Kinnaman and will miss him in S2.

Been watching The Righteous Gemstones – John Goodman, Danny McBride, Edi Patterson, Walton Goggins. It rules. I even like Adam Devine in it and I’d never really rated him before this.
