Okay, so I’m at the point now where if I’m not about to walk out the door at work soon, you’re all going to be hearing about me in the news.

“Shame he had to go in and kill everyone there, he always seemed like such a nice boy,” said Bing. You get the idea.

Anyway, I was talking to one of our photogs today about a program that they use to kind of portfolio-ize their work to send off to would-be employers. She told me she just has a Web site where all of her stuff is posted and it’s just easier to put on a resume. I have tons of pages I’ve designed (that could be converted into pdfs or jpgs or whatever).

I’m want to do a portfolio Web site for myself, but I don’t have the knowledge (or time) to put together a decent looking Web site. Anyone have any ideas on what I should do here? Since I work for a newspaper, I don’t have a whole lot of money, so that would probably become a factor. I would appreciate any thoughts you guys might have on the subject..

Well, a template might be a great place for you to start looking. Basically, you can purchase a (or series of) Photoshop files that allow you to update what’s on them, and publish them for the web. You can get good templates for not a lot of money. You want to look for portfolio templates specifically. I’d think that sticking with photographer style templates would be a good idea, then JPG up your pages, and maybe even provide links to active pages if you can. This should be setup for a novice that can use the tools type, so you should be able to handle this. You can purchase general (and specific) use templates from places like template monster, but don’t be afraid to google a bit to see what might be better and easier for you.

Once upon a time it seemed to me I played around a bit with a program that took a list of pics and generated thumbnails for them all and automatically put them together into a portfolio page, but that was a while ago. I’d have to go digging to see if I could find it again.

If I were you I would call Bryan and bug the fuck outta him and Jerry about you being such a great listener and they should pitch in to help you and if they don’t you could kidnap Rob and hold him for ransom.

And with this portfolio being on the net, no porn.

There is a lot of gallery software out there that will generate thumbs and such for you, even the one we use here does it. But that won’t give you a site, it will just give you the repository piece, and a basic display module for that.
