Here is a rather interesting, and kind of weird (especially the voice acting by non-native English speakers) CG animation made with Blender, the free and open-source 3D modeler and animation software.

Here is the temporary webpage for the movie itself, where you can choose your file format and size.

that is seriously fucking weird. Kick ass of course, but really weird.

It’s also interesting to go through the gallery and archive on Blender’s website and look at all the still images people have created.

    Pretty, but weird. Definitely weird.

That software made me go ‘huh?’. Of course, I suck with 3D apps anyway, but I couldn’t figure a thing out there.

That’s a pretty common reaction the first time someone takes a look at the software. Supposedly, even though the software is confusing at first, once you get used to it, it’s supposed to follow the natural flow of 3D modeling and make things easier.

That entire animation was made on Ubuntu Linux.

Here’s another short animation made with Blender.

Don’t you just get this feeling that more and more software is going toward the free/source style.

I’ve worked with a lot of 3D packages, eg. Lightwave, 3DS Max, Bryce, Poser and so on. Blender seems to grab bits from all of them making it a bit of an all rounder.

I’ve used 3DS Max and Brazil, and the output is comaparable to some of the blender ones.

Sooner or later, along will come a better one.

    Human nature is competitiveness.

Although, if you could design a program like Blender and not make a buck from it, would you be happy?

    (I can’t believe I have a normal streak in me) 🙂

If it doesn’t work, jam a screwdriver in there and jiggle it about.

Blender has a really interesting history. If there’s any interest in it, I’ll find a link and post it here.

Blender is actually capable of broadcast-quality and hi-def output.
